Foster & Partners has been appointed to design four stations for the new high speed rail line that will link the cities of Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.
Foster's is working in a joint venture with engineers Buro Happold on the stations which will share a common planning strategy.
Each station will have separate arrival and departure areas with different building envelopes to respond to the individual cities they will serve.
The Haramain high-speed railway will connect the two cities via the city of Jeddah with high speed trains capable of travelling at up to 300 km per hour.
It is hoped that the railway will reduce the number of cars being used by pilgrims visiting the cities.
